care of hand-hooked rugs
Turn the rug over and GENTLY shake out loose dirt. You may vacuum carefully, but it is recommended that you vacuum only on the front of the rug with an upholstery attachment (low-suction is best).
Do not machine wash or dry clean a hand-hooked rug. Blot spills with towels and sponge soiled areas with a mild soap solution, but do not soak the rug. Lay flat on a towel and allow to dry.
An old-fashioned method of cleaning the rug in a fresh snow bank still works. Toss the rug in the snow and sweep snow onto and off the rug and dry flat.
If necessary for storage or shipment, ROLL the rug with the face of the rug on the outside of the roll. Do not fold the rug or store it sealed in plastic.
